Mr. John Sparks

Biography

John Sparks has served as Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at 青涩直播 since 2007. Currently, John serves as the co-chair of the Kinesiology Dept and campus Pre-PT advisor. John holds a Master鈥檚 in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University, PA. John also has attained multiple strength and conditioning and movement analysis certifications including the CPSS (Certified Performance and Sport Scientist), CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and TSAC-F (Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator) from the NSCA, FMS (Functional Movement Screen) I and II from Functional Movement Systems, and Clinical Gait Analysis Certification from Run Lab. 

In the classroom, John teaches Anatomical Kinesiology (KIN 212), Functional Kinesiology (KIN 214), Assessment, Prescription, and Leadership of Cardio-Respiratory Exercise (KIN 240), Assessment, Prescription, and Leadership of Muscular Exercise (KIN 241), Nutrition (HE 254), Strength and Conditioning (PER 107), as well as other PER courses. Sparks also teaches Advanced Sports and Tactical Performance (KIN 528) as part of Calvin鈥檚 online master鈥檚 program in Exercise Science. 

John鈥檚 areas of interest and research lie in injury prevention and training techniques for Tactical occupations such as Fire Fighters, Law Enforcement, and Military personnel. John currently works with the Grand Rapids Fire Department on lower back and shoulder health and is working to collaborate on research in this area.

Sparks resides in Grand Rapids with his wife Erika, and three daughters, Abby, Claire and Hazel.
