Calvin Theatre Company: Tartuffe and the Hypocrites
Calvin Theatre Company presents TARTUFFE AND THE HYPOCRITES (comedy)
Written and directed by John Scritch铿乪ld, Creative Director and Visiting Lecturer of Theatre
Tartuffe & the Hypocrites breathes new life into Moli猫re鈥檚 classic tale as wealthy businessman Orgon welcomes the young religious zealot Tartuffe into his home. Chaos erupts on the weekend of Orgon鈥檚 daughter鈥檚 wedding when he announces that she will no longer marry her fianc茅, but Tartuffe instead. Determined to stop the forced union, Orgon鈥檚 family, led by his longtime partner Elmire, employ every strategy they can to change his mind before Marianne is compelled to marry against her will. Exploring the intersections of love, religion, and wealth, Tartuffe & the Hypocrites offers a sharp and timely examination of hypocrisy in the spirit of Moli猫re鈥檚 original vision for his enduring masterpiece.
